About Us
Veteran Family Owned & Operated Since 2002
Founded by Marine family members who believe in service above self, Superior has proudly served Bay, Walton, and Okaloosa Counties for over two decades. James F. Thorpe (Jimy), a veteran with nearly 7 years of military leadership experience, carries forward the values his father - a 30-year commercial/industrial AC contractor - instilled: work hard, stay honest, and treat every customer like family.
Together with his wife Marta Rose Thorpe, Jimy started Vets Helping Vets & First Responders in 2015, providing meals for heroes and donating complete AC systems to deserving families. Today, under General Manager Josh Heverly’s leadership, our Hometown Heroes program continues that mission by supporting teachers, nurses, doctors, first responders, and veterans in every community we serve.
As we put down deeper roots in Niceville by adding full plumbing services - and soon electrical and new-construction capabilities - we remain guided by faith, integrity, and gratitude for the opportunity to serve you.
Built on service, discipline, and leadership by example
From September 1985 to February 1992, I proudly served in the United States Military, beginning a journey that would shape everything I am today. I was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, where I served as a Communications Repairman, a role that demanded precision, technical expertise, and the ability to perform under pressure.
I would like to say I had fun serving and growing up with all types of men from around the world. The 82nd Airborne is one of the most elite divisions in the U.S. Army, and being part of that brotherhood instilled in me a sense of pride and discipline that I carry with me every single day.
During my service, I had the distinct honor of being deployed during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, where I stood alongside some of the finest men and women this country has ever produced. Serving in combat was a defining experience, one that tested my resolve, deepened my character, and gave me a profound appreciation for what it truly means to protect something greater than yourself.
The moment I received my combat patch was the greatest honor of my military career, a symbol of sacrifice, dedication, and unwavering commitment to my fellow soldiers and my country.
Rising through the ranks to become a Non-Commissioned Officer was perhaps the most meaningful chapter of my service. The NCO Corps taught me that true leadership is not about authority. It is about earning the trust of the people beside you, lifting them up, and leading by example.
Those lessons in leadership, accountability, and teamwork are the foundation of everything we do at A Superior Mechanical. When you invite us into your home or business, you are working with a team built on military values: integrity, reliability, and a genuine commitment to getting the job done right.
